The QN-100 uses the characteristic absorption of near-infrared light by water molecules to deliver accurate, instantaneous moisture readings — with no sample preparation and no contact with the product.
A tungsten halogen lamp projects near-infrared light towards the product through a rotating filter wheel. Each filter selects a specific NIR wavelength in sequence.
The product reflects NIR light back to the sensor's detector. Water molecules in the product absorb the measurement wavelength strongly, while the reference channels are unaffected.
The ratio of the measurement signal to the reference signals is computed, eliminating the effect of product colour, texture, and distance variations.
A two-point laboratory calibration maps the optical ratio to moisture percentage, producing an accurate, real-time moisture reading on the HMI and analogue outputs.
